Welcome to the Institute - an International Postgraduate Institute of Applied Psychology, committed to 'Healthy People, Healthy Work and Healthy Organisations'

We provide a dynamic and forward-looking environment for both research and education. In the most recent national teaching assessment, we achieved the maximum score of 24/24. The results of the Government's Research Assessment Exercise were announced on 18th December 2008. In terms of research power (Research Fortnightly), the University of Nottingham was ranked 7th in the UK - a significant improvement on the last such exercise in 2001, where it was ranked 14th. The Institute's research was submitted for assessment with the Nottingham University Business School. Virtually all of their research output (95%) was recognised as at the international level, with 70% rated as 'internationally excellent' or 'world-leading'- ranking them 6th amongst their 89 competitors in the UK.

Our staff of Chartered Occupational, Health, Clinical and Forensic Psychologists apply a scientific, scholarly yet practical approach to the study of people: both for their individual benefit and for the communities in which they work and live.  Our research drives our teaching – innovative postgraduate courses that aim to equip students with the knowledge and skills to ‘make a difference’ – to maximise the health and performance of people and organisations.

In September 2008, the Institute moved to state-of-the-art new accommodation, International House, on the University’s extension to the Jubilee Campus, developed with an emphasis on sustainable design and renewable energy sources. The University has invested £200 million in this new scheme designed by Ken Shuttleworth, designer of the iconic and award-winning London 'gherkin'.

For those interested in an ongoing account of the Institute's activities and achievements, please read the Director's Update at: http://instituteupdate.wordpress.com/. This blog is written mainly for the Institute's staff but is open to a wider more general readership.
