How to apply for a grant

This page contains details of the grants for which you can apply.

The Alzheimer's Research Trust funds the full translational research pathway including the basic disease process, early detection, identifying risk factors, alleviation and mechanisms of symptoms and progress towards effective treatments in Alzheimer’s and related dementias.

To apply for an Alzheimer's Research Trust grant, you must be a scientist based in a reputable research institution. The lead applicant and point of contact must be UK-based. However, applications can include researchers or institutions outside the UK.

Grants are advertised in scientific literature (eg Nature), by email, and here on our website. To receive email announcements about upcoming grant deadlines please register for our e-Newsletter and select the relevant option.

• Pilot project

  The Pilot project scheme provides funds (up to £30,000 for up to 24 months) for small innovative research projects and pilot studies.

  The Equipment grant scheme provides funds (upwards of £10,000 to a maximum of £100,000) for scientific equipment, flexibly defined.

  The Network cooperation scheme provides funds to further cooperation and collaboration between two or more ART Network centres.

• Jean Corsan Prize

  Next deadline: Friday 9th January 2009, Midnight

  £1,000 is to be awarded to the PhD or MD/PhD student registered at a United Kingdom University who has produced the best peer reviewed, original scientific paper published on dementia during the 2008 calendar year.

  The Major project or programme scheme provides funds (from £150,000 to a maximum of £1 million over two to five years) for high quality research projects or programmes.

  The Research fellowship scheme provides funds for salary, up to three years, and a contribution toward research and travel costs.

  The Emergency support grant scheme provides funds (up to £30,000 for up to 24 months) to bridge funding gaps.

  The Scientific conference grant scheme provides funds (up to a maximum of £2,000) to underwrite the costs of a scientific conference.

• PhD scholarship

  Next deadline: November 2009

  The PhD scholarship scheme provides funds over a three year period including a stipend (with London weighting); full PhD tuition fees (at the Home/EU rate); and a contribution towards research and travel costs. Prospective supervisors must apply.
