Research at Cardiff Business School

Research is a defining feature of Cardiff Business School, one of the leading UK academic institutions for the study of business and management. The School's mission is to produce research of international standing which covers all areas of management and business studies including: economics, banking, human resource management, finance and accounting, marketing and strategy, operations management and quantitative methods. These pages provide an outline of that work.

The research of over 150 faculty, including over 50 professors, is organised, in the first instance, around the School's main subject sections, namely: Accounting and Finance, Economics, Human Resource Management, Logistics and Operations Management, and Marketing and Strategy. These provide a broad disciplinary home for individuals as well as co-ordinating research, teaching and administration.

Specialist research centres and units usually emanate from a section but are also based on the collaboration of colleagues between sections; they are the vehicle for large scale projects. The breadth and depth of the School's research could not, however, rely solely on formal structures. Individual and small group research is highly prized and a sense of this type of work is conveyed in the descriptions of the main research centres and units.

The results of this activity have made Cardiff an attractive centre of scholarship for colleagues from the UK and beyond. These pages also give some idea of the impact of our research results, and include details of research recognition, seminars, grant awards and publications by staff.

Cardiff Business School has a strong PhD programme, with over 150 enrolled PhD candidates. A substantial proportion of these students are funded by scholarships obtained from funding bodies including the ESRC, EPSRC and a number of private sector organizations. The PhD programme web pages include research interests and contact details for our current PhD students, as well as a comprehensive guide for prospective PhD students.
