The School is dedicated to excellence in postgraduate studies. We believe that postgraduates are at the heart of the academic and social life of any university.
We offer taught and research programmes covering topics in archaeology, classics, history and the history of medicine.
We have over 100 full- and part-time students. Much of the stimulus for academic research comes from informal discussions with students and staff. Our funding database will also help you to locate specific funding opportunities.
The School provides events such as:
There is also an excellent Public Lecture Series that brings distinguished scholars to Newcastle.
You have access to some excellent facilities within the University and School. Most are within five minutes of our postgraduate suite which provides tailored support for our students.
The Postgraduate Forum is the school's very own on-line journal. It gives an idea of the range and depth of research undertaken by the school's postgraduates. It publishes postgraduate work, lists useful research and postgraduate links and conference announcements. There are also three student societies, The History Society, The Archaeological Society and The Maximus Society (for Classics).
We hope our web pages provide you with an idea of what the School has to offer. But should you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact Sandra Fletcher, the School's Postgraduate Secretary (+44 (0) 191 222 7966 or pg.historical@ncl.ac.uk).
