Who are we?

The Cardiovascular Division is one of the largest Research Divisions within the Health Schools of King's College London and comprises ~ 160 research workers (including 35 Principal Investigators [PIs] and >60 PhD/MD students) whose work is focused on the mechanisms and treatment of cardiovascular disease.  We have excellent infrastructure and facilities and strong collaborations with groupings focussed on imaging, structural biology and genetics.

What do we do?

The Division's mission is to:
  • Pursue internationally leading laboratory-to-bedside research programmes that address fundamental molecular, cellular, and physiological mechanisms underlying normal and abnormal cardiovascular function
  • Link these to translational research that improves the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of human cardiovascular disease
  • Undertake high quality research training for non-clinical and clinical scientists.

Where are we?

Members of the Division are currently based on all 3 teaching hospital campuses of King's College London - St Thomas', Denmark Hill and Guy's (for locations see Map). Currently, there is also a significant presence at the Waterloo campus. Our medium-term strategy is to consolidate research activities mainly on 2 sites, namely (a) the new James Black Centre at Denmark Hill and (b) the Rayne Institute at St Thomas'. The Muscle Cell Biology Section of the Division will remain mainly located within the Randall Centre at Guy’s campus.
