Split-Site Doctoral Scholarships

Split-Site scholarships support those undertaking doctoral study at a university in their home country, to spend one year at a United Kingdom university as part of their work. The awards were first introduced on a pilot basis in 1998. Each year we are able to make 30-35 awards.

Amongst the key features of the awards are the following:

    • Nominations for awards are only accepted from certain developing country universities and from nominating Agencies. Please consult the links below for details of the universities and Agencies which have been invited to nominate and which have been sent the appropriate application forms. Applications cannot be accepted directly from individuals.

    • Applicants should be registered for a doctoral degree at their home university. The final qualification obtained will be from the developing country, rather than the UK, institution.

    • The twelve months in the United Kingdom can be taken at any stage in the doctoral study (providing this is justified in the study plan), and can be divided into two or more periods.

    • The scholarship covers full tuition fees for one year at the UK host university, stipend for up to one year in the UK, return air fare and other allowances. The award does not support the period of study at the home country university.

    • Nominations must be received in London by 31 December of the year preceding tenure.
