Research and Enterprise

The Faculty has an international reputation for research excellence and is renowned for its interdisciplinary approach.

We are also committed to transferring our knowledge and skills to support social, economic and cultural organisations and stakeholders in the North-West and beyond.

Central to the promotion of our interdisciplinary approach is the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS), a joint venture with the Lancaster University Management School.

The Faculty also has several research centres including:

• Lancaster Literacy Research Centre

Undergraduate Study

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is the largest faculty in the University with 13 departments offering degrees at undergraduate level. Our unique degree structure enables students to undertake studies in up to three subject areas in the first year before specialising at Part II.
