About the programmes

The MSc in Social Research Methods and MSc in Social Research provide students with a well-rounded training and sophisticated knowledge of research methods for the social sciences. Students on both MSc programmes will become highly proficient in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and will:

● Gain an introduction to the philosophy of social research and
social theory.

● Develop expertise in the skills and techniques of research,
including how to organise and analyse data when conducting
research, as well as designing implementing and evaluating
projects.

● Obtain a practical and theoretical knowledge of a range of qualitative and quantitative methods.

The MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice combines modules in academic criminology and the criminal justice system with training in the full range of qualitative and quantitative research methods. This combination of analytical criminological knowledge and applied research skills ensures that students will develop a sophisticated understanding of the key issues, problems and perspectives in contemporary criminology. The unique emphasis on research methodology means that our students are able to think logically and in an informed manner about criminological problems, and are able to design, conduct and manage effective research.
