Postgraduate Opportunities Interested in doing an MSc in a field related to Sociology such as Social Research Methods OR Criminology and Criminal Justice? The Department of Sociology at the University of Surrey, rated 5* in the RAE in 2001, is currently recruiting talented students to enrol in their Master's programmes in Social Research Methods or Criminology and Criminal Justice. If you or someone that you know is keen, we invite you to apply for one of the following full-time and part-time Master's programmes. • MSc in Social Research Methods (full-time; 12 months) • MSc in Social Research (part-time; 24 months, 1 day per week) • MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice (full-time; 12 months) • MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice (part-time; 1 day per week) About the programmes The MSc in Social Research Methods and MSc in Social Research provide students with a well-rounded training and sophisticated knowledge of research methods for the social sciences. Students on both MSc programmes will become highly proficient in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and will: ● Gain an introduction to the philosophy of social research and ● Develop expertise in the skills and techniques of research, ● Obtain a practical and theoretical knowledge of a range of qualitative and quantitative methods. The MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice combines modules in academic criminology and the criminal justice system with training in the full range of qualitative and quantitative research methods. This combination of analytical criminological knowledge and applied research skills ensures that students will develop a sophisticated understanding of the key issues, problems and perspectives in contemporary criminology. The unique emphasis on research methodology means that our students are able to think logically and in an informed manner about criminological problems, and are able to design, conduct and manage effective research.
