The Department has a strong research profile (5A in 2001 RAE) with 33 academic staff, more than 50 postgraduate research students and 40 full-time research assistants. The Department has received substantial investment in new research infrastructure in recent years. The Department is a key member of the UK government's Foresight Technology Programmes and MOD Defence Technology Centre on Data and Information Fusion. There are strong links with industry including Toshiba Research Labs, Texas Instruments (Digital Signal Processing) Elite University, and TRW Aeronautical Systems Research Centre in Electric Drives.
Applications are invited for fully funded postgraduate studentships in the following areas:
• Mobile and Wireless Communication Systems
• Image and Signal Processing
• Antennas and Propagation
• Electromagnetic Modelling
• Networks and Protocols
• Power Electronics
• Optical Communications
• Lasers and Optoelectronic Components
Typical studentships will cover the fees for Home/EU students and maintenance of up to £15k pa for Home students. Industrial studentships may provide an increased maintenance. Applicants should possess a minimum 2.1 degree or equivalent in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Maths, Physics or a related discipline.
