Institution: Imperial College Research within DIDE applies novel interdisciplinary approaches for the study of the epidemiology, evolution and control of infectious agents. The Departments research involves a wide variety of pathogens including sexually transmitted agents such as HIV and N. gonorrhoeae; transmissible spongiform encephalopathies; bacterial respiratory and nosocomial pathogens, including MRSA; a variety of parasitic helminths; fungi of medical, veterinary and wildlife importance, and various directly transmitted viruses (such as influenza A). We focus on controlling transmission using outbreak analysis and integrating epidemiology and pathogen population genetics.
