Florence Nightingale Foundation
The Band Trust Research Scholarships enable nurses and midwives to undertake a course in research methods, an evidence-based practice module or a research-based component of a graduate programme or a research dissertation as part of a degree course. These are the only COURSES funded by the Foundation. Each Scholar writes a report and these are publicised widely, borrowed and copied freely, thus Scholars share the knowledge they gain with many others.
These scholarships are offered annually, for one academic year, to British and Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives who have a current registration with the NMC and are working in the UK. You are invited to apply if your study involves:
a course in research, or
an evidence-based practice module or a research-based component of a graduate programme, or
a research dissertation
All of these must be academically supervised and must involve research with the aim of improving practice. The Charity Commission requires that all research funded by the Foundation meets the guidance issues in their document "Charities and Research" (October 1990).
Applicants must be committed to evidence-based practice and have current clinical links.
On completion of the course or period of research, the Foundation will require a written report from the Scholar on the study undertaken and its value and contribution it has made to their professional practice.
The Foundation cannot pay for secretarial assistance, computers, stationery, travel expenses to and from place of study, replacement staff costs or for unpaid study leave while the Scholar is undertaking the study, nor can a scholarship be awarded retrospectively.
