Product Design and Engineering

The Product Design and Engineering (PDE) department is concerned with designing, prototyping and manufacturing innovative products. We aim to develop people who can make informed design decisions and are prepared for employment. We provide excellent facilities, including two Rapid Prototyping machines, laser cutters, 3D laser scanner, various CNC machines, robotics, flexible manufacturing system and the latest CAD and design software. The students are supported by an excellent team of teaching and technical staff, each with their own area of expertise, as well as visiting academics who are in studio practice. PDE has established links with many design and design engineering companies who support placements and research projects.
