Department of Earth Sciences

The Department is situated at the historic heart of the campus. Geology has been taught at Bristol since 1876 but the name of the Department was changed from Geology to Earth Sciences in 1998. The Department currently has 27 core-funded academic staff (including 7 professors), 15 support staff, 1 Marie Curie Chair, 4 Marie Curie Fellows, 3 NERC Fellows and 29 other externally-funded researchers (including 2 professors). The Department currently provides eight single honours undergraduate degree programmes. There are also four joint honours programmes, taught MScs in Palaeobiology and in Earth System Science, and an MSc by Research in the Science of Natural Hazards.
