Department of History

The Department of History's modern approach to research and teaching emerges from deep historical roots in one of Scotland's ancient universities. One of the largest departments in the Faculty of Arts, the Department of History combines cutting-edge research with excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The Department provides research-informed teaching and supervision to hundreds of pre-Honours students, about 300 Honours students and over 70 postgraduates each year. Staff expertise ranges from late antiquity to the twentieth century, with an emphasis on the histories of Scotland, Britain, Europe and North America.
