What is Al-Maktoum Institute?
Al-Maktoum Institute is a Scottish research-led institution of higher education which offers postgraduate programme of study (taught Masters and MPhil/PhD research) in these areas. It is an independent institution, with its degree programmes validated by the University of Aberdeen. All teaching and supervision takes place in Dundee.

The aim of the Institute is to be a centre of excellence in the Study of Islam and Muslims, in particular to promote intelligent debate and understanding of Islam and the role of Muslims in the contemporary world, and to be a place of knowledge and reflection on the issues facing a diverse and multicultural world in the twenty-first century.

One of the Institute’s aims is to provide a meeting point between the Western and Muslim worlds of learning, and to encourage and forge international links, scholarship and academic co-operation.

What’s on Offer?
Al-Maktoum Institute offers both taught (MLitt) and research (PhD, MPhil) postgraduate programmes.

Taught Masters
• MLitt in Islamic Studies
• MLitt in Islamicjerusalem Studies
• MLitt in Muslims, Globalisation, and the West
• MLitt in Multiculturalism
• shorter (taught only) PgCert and PgDip programmes in the above subjects are also available

Research programmes (MPhil and PhD)
• Supervision is available in all of the above subject areas leading to either MPhil or PhD from University of Aberdeen
