ESRC Doctoral Training Centres

Economic and Social Research Council

Subjects:

The ESRC supports postgraduate training to help ensure we: develop skilled social scientists who contribute to a competitive, knowledge based UK economy; and create the next generation of world leading academic social scientists.
ESRC has established a network of 21 Doctoral Training Centres (DTCs) and awards all of its studentship funding directly to the institutions which make up that network, and not to individual students. All potential students should consult the list of DTCs and contact the institution at which they wish to undertake a research degree directly.

Studentships can only be held at one of the institutions that make up the network of DTCs and on an accredited pathway within the DTC. Information regarding the DTCs and their accredited pathways can be found here:
http://www.esrc.ac.uk/funding-and-guidance/guidance/postgraduates/doctoral-train...

The ESRC provides studentship funding for PhDs or a Research Masters followed by a PhD. ESRC does not fund standalone masters courses.

Awards can be 'Full-Awards' or 'Fees-Only' dependent on residential eligibility. They can also be held on a 'Full-Time' or 'Part-Time' basis subject to the pathway holding the appropriate accreditation.
