Department of International Relations

The IR department at LSE is one of the oldest in the world. Since its foundation over seventy-five years ago, it has gained a global reputation in the field of IR theory. The Department was awarded a rating of 'Excellent' (5) in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) and achieved 22/24 in the most recent Quality Assurance Agency Teaching Assessment. Current professors in the department include Chris Brown, Barry Buzan, Christopher Coker, Michael Cox, Fred Halliday, Kim Hutchings and John Sidel, while the Department as a whole contains an unrivalled range in both explanatory and normative theory. Students will get the chance to work alongside leading figures in the discipline in tackling some of the world’s most important concerns.
