School of Communications

Royal College of Art

Subjects:

The Departments of Animation and of Communication Art & Design invite applications from graduate artists and designers to study for Research degrees (MPhil/PhD) in any area of communication, including animation, graphic imaging, illustration, sustainability studies, drawing and audio-visual media. We are especially interested in research projects that combine creative studio practice with critical theory, and that explore innovative ideas in all aspects of contemporary communications. Applicants should normally have a first and second degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline. The departments offer professional guidance and supervision, supported by the RCAResearch Methods Course. Bursaries are available to full-time MPhil students. Current Research Fellows include Rick Poynor and Patrick Keiller (CA&D) and Deborah Levy (Animation). Initial inquiries (with a brief outline proposal) should be sent to Al Rees at al.rees@rca.ac.uk (CA&D) and to Professor Joan Ashworth (Animation) joan.ashworth@rca.ac.uk. Application forms and further details of RCAresearch are on the college website http://www.rca.ac.uk/pages/study/mphil_and_phd_application_3541.html
