School of Physical Sciences and Engineering

The School comprises the Departments of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering, and the Centre for Bioinformatics. World-leading research is carried out in all departments, in a vibrant research community which is continually striving to develop established areas of excellence and to implement new initiatives.
Each department has well-established research programmes and our strengths have enabled us to form strong links with industry. There is a strong commitment to interdisciplinary research, while established research programmes have continued to enhance their status. The Centre for Bioinformatics was formed in 2007 to promote research and to provide expertise and resources in bioinformatics.
