MSc and Studentships in Bioinformatics

King’s Centre for Bioinformatics (KCBI)

King's College London

Bioinformatics is an exciting multidisciplinary field involving the research, development and application of computational approaches for storing, analysing, representing and distributing biomolecular data. The aim of the MSc is to provide students with theoretical foundations and practical understanding of computational techniques in the study of genome structure, function and evolution.

This is a taught programme delivered by staff from several disciplines. Examples of topics covered are an introduction to molecular biology for bioinformatics, computer programming, algorithm design and analysis; algorithms for computational molecular biology; experimental data collection techniques for bioinformatics; formal models and algorithms for structural bioinformatics and genome analysis.

A few funded EPSRC studentships are available. These provide payment of full university fees (at the rate for UK/European Union students) and a maintenance grant of up to £14,600 pa. These full studentships are available to all UK applicants, while EU applicants can apply for fees-only funding.

For more information about the MSc, please see our website: http://www.kcl.ac.uk/schools/pse/bioinform/msc.html

King’s College London is in the top 25 of the World University Rankings (Times Higher – QS 2008). With an investment of more than £1 million the King’s Centre for Bioinformatics (KCBI - http://www.kcl.ac.uk/schools/pse/bioinform/) is a major new development for the College and makes available high performance computing facilities for Bioinformatics. Based in the School of Physical Sciences & Engineering it draws upon the expertise of academics in the Schools of Biomedical & Health Sciences, Medicine and the Institute of Psychiatry.
