The University of Strathclyde's BRE Centre of Excellence in Energy Utilisation has an industrial PhD studentship award starting from 1st March 2008. These studentships, unlike most others, allow the postgraduate to simultaneously gain industrial experience and qualify for either an MPhil after the first year or a Doctorate level degree after 3 years. The postgraduate will be based at BRE Scotland in East Kilbride and will be required to attend for short periods the University of Strathclyde which is based in the exciting vibrant city of Glasgow.
The postgraduate (UK/EU candidate, ideally qualified to a 2:1 first degree level in a relevant engineering, scientific or geographic discipline or to MEng Engineering standard), will receive a remuneration package equivalent to a salary of £18.5K+ per annum. The projects present the postgraduate with a unique opportunity for a career or a career change in to the business of advanced energy modelling of domestic buildings and its energy systems. This business sector is growing at over 15% per annum and is expected to continue to grow at accelerated rates for the next 10 years.
The studentship presents a career opportunity that allows the individual to contribute to the sustainability of the economy, society and the environment we live in. This project is of a high strategic importance and BRE is looking for a highly capable individual . The task is to research and develop modelling techniques to ensure that the building regulations reflect an honest performance of new and emerging building and energy system technologies, whilst ensuring full engagement with the industries building community and manufacturers.
