School of Humanities and Social Sciences

We are a large interdisciplinary School carrying out research and teaching across Arab and Islamic Studies, Classics and Ancient History, History, Politics, International Relations, Sociology, Philosophy and Theology.

We provide a lively cosmopolitan environment for more than 400 graduates who enjoy good rates of student satisfaction.

Rated RAE 5 for all disciplines denoting our world-class research, we have around £6 million in external research grants, an annual research income of £2 million and programmes recognised and funded by ESRC and AHRC.

We spend £760,000 a year on postgraduate support including bursaries and scholarships. Students benefit from research skills training and excellent postgraduate facilities.
