The Law School at the University of Strathclyde invites applications for the award of a Campbell Burns Scholarship. There will be a maximum of four Scholarships in existence at any given time.
Successful applicants will have their fees waived for each year of their period of study (1 year for LLM students; 3 years for PhD students) together with an annual maintenance award of £5,000. The scholarship is for one year in the first instance and in the case of PhD students, subject to satisfactory progress, will normally be renewed up to the maximum of a further 2 years. Scholarship holders may be invited to provide up to a maximum of 50 hours tutoring or other similar duties per semester, for which they would receive additional remuneration.
All research students at Strathclyde Law School may access the Departmental Research and Development Fund to assist in expenses arising directly from their research activity.
Applications may be submitted at any time. However, those wishing to ensure that their application for a Campbell Burns Research Scholarship for commencement in Academic Session 2008-09 will be considered and processed in due time, should apply as soon as possible, and certainly before Friday 27th of June 2008. No guarantee of timeous processing can be given in respect of applications received after these dates.

- Before applications for this scholarship may be considered, candidates must have applied for admission to, and received either an unconditional or conditional place on, the Law School’s postgraduate research programme.
Criteria for award based on academic achievement: A First or Upper Second Class Honours degree or equivalent is required.
Eligibility: Area of research interest resonant with the expertise and current interests of available Law School staff. Proven, or potential, ability to teach at undergraduate level. If English is not the applicant’s first language, a minimum of 7 in IELTS, or equivalent, will be required.
