The MSc IAMBEC course is a one year full-time degree programme and provides advanced research-led training and direct practical experience in state-of-the-art analytical and instrumental methods.

Warwick’s excellence in Analytical Science Research and Training has recently been recognised by a major funding initiative by the EPSRC, which has led to the foundation of the new Interdisciplinary Warwick Centre for Analytical Science, with major investments in infrastructure, instrumentation, and research personnel. Our 2008 IAMBEC students will have the opportunity to be part of this exciting new development.

The staff who will teach and supervise your studies are recognised both for their teaching excellence and research quality, and include academic members of the Department as well as respected industrialists from companies such as Syngenta and ICI.

Each of the nine taught modules (e.g. Biophysical Techniques and Instrumental Design, Bioimaging and Arrays, Mass spectrometry, NMR spectroscopy, Chromatography, Elemental Analysis, Electroanalytical Chemistry) features both theoretical and practical teaching. Practical sessions emphasise data acquisition and interpretation, following protocols of international standard as expected in Industry.

During the 5-month research project, in which you will work together with experienced researchers from academia and/or Industry, you will develop enhanced research and experimental skills that are directly applicable to Industrial and Research careers.

The course has been supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) for the last ten years, has been critically acclaimed by industrial and academic employers, and falls under the EPSRC Collaborative Training Account scheme awarded to the University of Warwick, to stimulate research-led education linking academia and industry.

“Characterisation of chemical products is of the utmost importance. Chemistry is fundamental to the global economy, with analytical chemists central to this growth. The Masters course at the University of Warwick Chemistry Department provides exceptional theoretical and practical skills and produces the highest quality graduates year after year.”
Prof. David M. Haddleton, founder and chief technology officer of Warwick Effect Polymers, Ltc.
