MSc in Natural Computation - Studentships Available

Department of Computer Science

University of York

The University of York is one of the leading Universities for the study of Computer Science in the UK. The Times Good University Guide 2008 ranks us 7th and The Guardian 3rd. Our research has been awarded the highest grade of 6* from UK Research Assessment Exercise and we offer a suite of Masters programmes that build on our research strengths in software engineering and computing. We boast a welcoming and friendly environment and have a graduate community comprising over 100 students from around the world.

Natural Computation is computing inspired by the natural world, by biology, physics and chemistry. Our MSc aims to provide participants with a thorough grounding in the use of advanced techniques of natural computation - broadening ideas about computation to include ideas from mathematics, physics, electronics and biology.

Ever wondered how a flock of birds manages to move so quickly in unison?

Understanding this and other natural phenomena has led to some powerful new methods in computing. The MSc in Natural Computation aims to introduce you to the leading research in naturally inspired computing including: quantum computing; evolvable hardware; and neural computation.

For 2008, we are able to offer a small number of EPRSC studentships to suitably qualified Home and EU students for the MSc in Natural Computation. The studentships will cover fees and for Home students a living allowance at a level to be determined by the University.

Furthermore, the University of York will also be offering a limited number of fees-only studentships for Home/EU applicants, sponsored by Microsoft Research Ltd.
