Description of the project
The aims of this study are to examine current practice in NHS commissioning of public health, as well as development and evaluation of new frameworks for this purpose. The research will be conducted largely using qualitative methods. After assessing current practice in commissioning public health, stage 2 will take the conclusions from this assessment and work with all stakeholders to devise an improved framework. In stage 3, the framework will be evaluated in terms of whether the change has resulted in shifting patterns of resource allocation, health impact, notions of due process, and acceptability to stakeholders.
The research will be undertaken at the interface of economics and health policy research, drawing on qualitative research as well as fields of finance and management.
