Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in User Profile Building, Interoperability and Synchronisation in Mobile and Consumer Devices. Motorola Labs in Basingstoke, UK (Dr. Paola Hobson, Director, Personalization & Knowledge, BT) has established research collaboration with Queen Mary, University of London (Dr Laurissa Tokarchuk & Dr John Bigham).
The main goal of this PhD Research is to create a “perceive-think-act” framework that can be instantiated in different application scenarios with e.g. different supporting ontologies, different workflows, different triggering mechanisms, and different meta-cognition and learning capabilities according to different applications and devices including mobile handsets, PCs, mp3 players and STB.
The envisaged fundamental research is aimed at emulating intelligent goal-driven mechanisms to provide answers to central questions such as:
• How to build units able to combine information from different environments with information in the memory of their common distributed knowledge to decide upon a course of action. In this project the consequence of the resulting autonomous action should be an event designed to enable optimal interoperability, synchronisation and building of user profiles.
• How a cognition-endowed distributed cooperative system can be used in an environment that links mobile, TV and PC to improve interoperability, synchronisation and building of user profiles.
• Which profiling information should be shared between different applications to improve overall user profiling effectiveness and efficiency.
