Our MA Programmes encourage the exchange of knowledge and professional experience under the guidance of experienced tutors with a leading track record in educational research. They are designed to enable students to construct programmes of study relevant to their own professional and academic concern and where appropriate, to the development and concerns of their own institution.
The programmes are designed to accommodate part-time students who wish to continue working. Taught modules are run in Term One & Two in two-hour blocks over ten weeks. The taught sessions usually run in the late afternoon to early evening.
Modules include:

Introduction to Educational Research (Compulsory)
Understanding Educational Change Management
Policy Analysis
Understanding Learning, Teaching and Assessment: Psychological Perspectives
Engendered Education

Up to 50% of our MA Programmes can comprise of independent study, and maximum flexibility is possible in this respect.

The programme draws on the expertise of a large number of staff across the Department
The department has been allocated Economic and Social Research Council quota awards (ESRC) for 1+3/+3 research training. We are now accepting applications for entry as follows:
2009/10 - 4 awards
2010/2011 - 4 awards

Please note that the MA programmes are not practical teaching practice courses, nor do they lead to Qulaified Teacher Status (QTS)

Entry requirements:

The MA is open to students with at least an upper second class degree. The Department will, however, also consider applications from non-graduates who have shown ability in an advanced academic diploma in education or who show evidence of intellectual achievement in their work as teachers.

Language requirements:

IELTS - Overall 6.5 with at least 6.0 for reading & writing TOEFL at least 580 with a good score for reading and writing. Computer based 237 - Internet based 93
