MSc/Diploma Evolution and Behaviour![]() Department of PsychologyUniversity of StirlingCourse Co-ordinator: Dr Sarah Vick AIM OF PROGRAMME The programme aims to provide advanced training as a preparation for a research career in Psychology, with specialisation in Evolution and Behaviour. It is intended primarily for students intending to proceed to a PhD in Psychology, who already have a degree in Psychology or an allied discipline. The focus on Evolution and Behaviour allows students to take a specialised taught module, a research placement and a research project all within this area of study. We have good collaborative links to allow for students to gain practical experience conducting research on animal behaviour and we are also able to support research into some aspects of human evolutionary psychology. PERIOD OF STUDY Full time: two semesters for Diploma, 12 months for MSc. Part time: four semesters for the Diploma, 24 months for MSc. This programme begins in September. ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS Consideration is given to candidates with a first or second class single or joint Honours degree in Psychology (or a closely related subject). ASSESSMENT The modules are normally assessed by coursework, but assessment may include alternative methods as specified by the module co-ordinator. Candidates for the degree will be required to make an oral presentation within the department. For the award of the diploma, candidates must pass all modules (C or above). A candidate for the diploma whose grades average C or better may be permitted to change registration to that for the MSc. Part time students must pass all modules of the programme in year one to progress. Where performance is unsatisfactory, one opportunity for repeated assessment is allowed. DISSERTATION Dissertation reporting on a research project should be submitted for the degree before the start of the semester following completion of the programme of instruction. All students are allocated an appropriate supervisor for their research topic. Dissertations should not exceed 15,000 words in length.
