A highly research active Sociology and Socio-Cultural Studies area within the School of Social & Political Studies, we are 'recognised' by the ESRC to hold its prestigious 1+3 Studentships and provide research training for doctoral students. We offer a range of substantive and research Masters degrees, and the PhD Sociology and PhD Socio-Cultural Studies. We have particular supervisory expertise in national identity; narrative, auto/biographical studies & the sociology of culture; personal life, intimacy & marginalisation; social studies of finance; critical sociology; South Asian studies; African studies; Science & Technology studies.
