COURSES: MSc Combustion & Energy and MSc Energy & Environment
SCHOLARSHIP: A total of 7 scholarships available for September 2008 entry, which includes a maintenance award of up to £12,940 per annum.

COURSE DETAILS:

MSc Combustion & Energy
This course develops a fundamental yet broad understanding of the theory and practice of energy utilization and transformation, with emphasis upon combustion. Hazards such as explosions and fires also receive considerable attention.

It is designed to provide students of diverse academic backgrounds with an excellent grounding in theoretical, practical and computational skills, for future employment, or an advanced career in the multidisciplinary energy, engine emissions, fire and explosion control fields.

MSc Energy & Environment
We are increasingly aware that our present and future energy demands and particularly our over reliance on fossil fuels contribute to global warming and can destabilise world economies.
Results of climate change are already visible through out the world, with changing coastlines and ecosystems, epidemics and poverty. Gas and oil prices are still on the up, and whilst demand carries on increasing, it is likely that production will peak during the next decade. Urban populations are also continuing to grow, bringing with them waste disposal problems, traffic congestion and greater power, heating and refrigeration needs, as well as fire and explosion hazards.

As a response to this we are now seeing changing energy policies worldwide, geared towards encouraging energy autonomy by developing renewable energies and recycling initiatives as well as implementing low carbon technologies. At the same time pollution control guidelines and emission regulations have tightened.
The MSc in Energy and Environment is one of a handful of courses in the UK university sector that provides graduates from diverse engineering, scientific and technical backgrounds with an expertise in new energy technologies, solid waste recycling, air and water pollution, and fire and explosion protection.
