MRes in Systems: Managing Systems for Enhanced Performance

EngD in Systems Centre

University of Bristol and University of Bath

The MRes is a two year part time programme aimed at graduates who will be capable of leading innovation in the field of systems engineering. The programme will operate in close collaboration with industry and alongside the existing EngD in Systems.

The industrial company will identify the research topic and the project will be agreed by the company, the student (Research Engineer) and the Programme Director. All projects will be run collaboratively between the company and the University of Bristol.

MRes Research Engineers (RE) will have full access to the EngD Centre for Systems which is a focal point for systems study in the South West and they will have numerous opportunities to network with leading edge researchers in the field though regular seminars and conferences held in the Centre.

On completion of the MRes an RE will have:

- A Masters level understanding of generic systems engineering
- A training in specific management and enterprise skills to a Masters level
- A high level of competence in transferable skills (teamwork, leadership and communication)
- Used the systems model in a research programme, and
- Developed substantive contacts with the systems engineering community
- The MRes research and training programme is co-ordinated from the Engineering Doctorate Centre at Bristol, where a new state-of-the art teaching and networking environment has recently been created.

Candidates should have a minimum of an Upper Second (2:1) class honours degree (or equivalent), in a subject related to the proposed MRes research project. Candidates without a recognised degree may be acceptable if they can demonstrate significant, relevant industrial experience.
