The Department of Mechanical Engineering consists of 5 Professors and 20 other academic staff.
The Department has an extensive research profile with funding from the EPSRC, the European Commission, Government agencies and industry. Departmental research is focused via three groups, listed below.
• Design & Process Engineering
• Dynamics & Control
• Solid Mechanics
There are currently approximately 80 research assistants and research students attached to the research groups. The Department was one of the top-ranking Mechanical Engineering departments in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), having achieved a Grade 5A.
