MA Writing, Nature and Place

University of Exeter
A number of £2,000 scholarships are available to students enrolling in this ground-breaking course on our Cornwall campus in 2010/11.
Devoted to the history and practice of writing about the environment, this unique MA is designed to help you produce writing of outstanding quality as you develop an appreciation of how writers from Shakespeare to Heaney and Macfarlane have shaped and related to the notion of place.
We’ll take you out into the field, where you will carry out on-site investigations which will inspire your own original writing projects. You will learn career skills involved in making a living as a writer and gain practical experience of producing a literary magazine.
This course offers you the chance to:
• study the only MA of its kind anywhere in the world
• learn on location including a 10 day residential field trip
• benefit from master classes led by established writers and artists
• develop and contribute to a new writing magazine
• study a fascinating variety of texts
• benefit from highly skilled academic staff with real world experience of writing and publishing
The MA Writing, Nature and Place is based at our Cornwall Campus, which with the development of the new Environment and Sustainability Institute is becoming a focal point for interdisciplinary research and study related to the environment, climate change and sustainability.
The course is ideal for writers seeking to enhance their professional skills and/or specialise in writing about nature, place and the environment. It is also suitable for individuals seeking the skills and experience to pursue careers in professional writing, publishing, heritage, the environment and academia.
It is also likely that a student enrolling in this course in 2009/10 may qualify for a substantial bursary from the European Social Fund*. Details of this award will be posted on our course website as soon as they become available.
