AHRC Professional Preparation Master's Scheme

Arts and Humanities Research Council

These awards provide support for students to undertake a Master's or Postgraduate Diploma course that focuses on developing high-level skills and competencies for professional practice in a field relevant to the content of the course.

One-year full-time or two-year part-time Master's course
An award to enable students to follow a full-time Masters course, lasting a minimum of 9 months and a maximum of 12 months or a part-time Master's course lasting a maximum of 24 months.

Two-year full-time or four-year part-time Master's course
Funding for courses lasting 2 years full-time or 4 years part-time will exceptionally be considered, where the value and necessity of the additional year(s) training is demonstrated.

Three-year full-time Master's course
Four courses exist in the Conservation of Painting, where awards are available for up to a maximum of three years. See Table 2 in the AHRC guide for details of courses to which this applies.

Applications are accepted from any UK HEI recognised and funded by one of the four UK higher education funding councils, and from institutions whose postgraduate courses are validated by a recognised UK HEI.

Students must have been accepted, either firmly or provisionally, by an HEI to undertake the course of study for which they are seeking funding.

Students should also be a graduate of a recognised HEI, or an undergraduate expecting to graduate in the same year they propose to start their study.
