Applicants for grants must be:-
over the age of 24 on 1st October of the proposed year of study
graduates with a first or upper second class honours degree (or its equivalent), or final year under-graduate students proposing to undertake post-graduate studies and who are expected to achieve a 1st class or 2.1 degree
studying for a degree in medicine, dentistry or veterinary science, or for a higher degree or equivalent academic qualification in any subject, at a University in the United Kingdom
already resident in the UK at the time of application
Awards are competitive and made on the basis of academic merit and financial need. All grants are awarded for a full year of academic study and for one year only. Applicants for full time postgraduate degree courses may normally be supported up to a maximum of three years but new applications have to be submitted each year.
Please note that the following will not qualify for grants : students awarded major grants (i.e. intended to cover full fees and subsistence) from any source, students who have already been supported by the Trust for a postgraduate degree in another field, full-time PhD students beyond a third year of study, electives, diplomas, PGCE courses, professional training such as Law Society examinations and PLAB tests.
