University of Essex
University of Essex Scholarships support talented postgraduate students, particularly PhD students, to study at the University. The Scholarships are awarded annually by departments and centres who identify eligible students.
The awards are for up to three years and are designed for students who would be unable to take up a place without them. They are available to UK, EU and international students.
To be eligible to be considered for a University of Essex Scholarship you must have applied for admission as a postgraduate student at the University. Departments have their own criteria for the award of Scholarships and you should visit the department's web pages for further information. Applicants need to demonstrate their financial need and that they have applied for support from other sources, such as from the Research Councils.
The value and availability of the Scholarship varies and is determined by the department. When a Scholarship is awarded it is deducted against the tuition fees payable. Any balance is then paid in termly instalments to the student. Depending on the size of the Scholarship awarded, it may be necessary for the student to make a contribution to their tuition fees.
International students who have an ORSAS award will be provided with a supplementary University of Essex Scholarship so that the full cost of their tuition fees is covered.
