1 year full-time or 2 year part-time degree consists of 120 taught credits and a 60 credit projects. For those attending full-time, the degree occupies a full academic year and comprises a formal taught component and an extended project. The taught component (Part 1) commences at the beginning of October, through to May. On successful completion of Part I, students progress to Part II in June which concludes with a written dissertation submission in October. The scheme is organised on a two week modular basis.

Each two-week module comprises 24 hours of formal lectures, including some from external tutors with an industrial experience/background. The second week of each module, is generally dedicated to private study.

In Part II, the dissertations are normally carried out individually under the supervision of a primary and a secondary supervisor. Delegates sponsored by industry can carry out a project that has direct relevance to their company and industrial involvement is encouraged for all projects.

For part-time students that carry out their project in industry, the project must be approved and jointly supervised by a member of staff of the University. The same assessment procedure adopted for full-time delegates are used.
