1. What makes PostgraduateStudentships.co.uk different?

Like everyone else, students want to find everything they need in one dedicated place: PostgraduateStudentsihps.co.uk has been created to attract the best potential postgraduate students to view your funding and study opportunities, by bringing all the different types of funding together in one place, as well as providing tailored advice and services.

Potential postgraduate students browsing or searching on the site will find:
* Specific funded PhD, Professional Doctorate and postgraduate taught opportunities listed by HEIs,
and
* Departmental and institution-wide funding opportunities listed by HEIs
and
* Study opportunities without specifically linked funding listed by HEIs: we will display relevant general funding alongside these ads.
and
* General funding opportunities from charities and other sources that could apply to the unfunded study opportunities.

By bringing together the different types of funding, and both taught and research study opportunities, potential students will find everything they need on PostgraduateStudentships.co.uk. And by making it easy for students to find what they need, we make it easy for you to find the best students.

In July 2007 we had over 60,000 individual visits and numbers are increasing every week. We are currently attracting around 1400-1700 individual visitors every day.

3. What can I advertise on PostgraduateStudentships.co.uk?

Our Basic Advertisements allow institutions and funding organisations to advertise funding, course and postgraduate project opportunities at Masters and Doctorate level, including MPhil, PhD and Professional Doctorates. You can also advertise postgraduate open days and postgraduate student/alumni profiles. Advert enhancements, including keeping your advert on the home page of the site, are also available.

All advertisers can also place buttons and banners on the site.

4. How do I register and start advertising on PostgraduateStudentships.co.uk?

Registration for Funding Providers on PostgraduateStudentships.co.uk is quick, easy and free:

Step 1: Register yourself
Step 2: If your Department is already registered, add your registration to the Department.
OR
If your Department is not registered, provide brief details of an administrative contact to add a new Department.
Step 3: Confirm your registration and access your account.
Step 4: Purchase advertisement tokens in our convenient Advertisement Packages, and use the tokens within the package to create and save your ads ready for publication.

As soon as your registration has been approved (by PostgraduateStudentships.co.uk if yours is a new Department, or by your Departmental Administrator if the Department is already registered) you can publish your adverts on the site and buy new advertisement packages, whenever you like.

5. Why does my registration need to be approved?

This process only happens when you first register and is designed to ensure that only genuine staff members/employees of an organisation can register, purchase advertisement packages and post advertisements on PostgraduateStudentships.co.uk. As soon as your registration (and that of your Department if you are setting up a new one) has been approved, you can publish advertisements on the site, and in the meantime you can create your advertisements for publication.

On weekdays, we aim to approve all new Departments submitted before 12.00 by 5pm, and all Departments submitted after 12.00 by the following day.

6. How do I create an advertisement?

When you access your account, you will be able to buy Advertisement Tokens in one of our convenient packages, which only takes a few minutes - no need for a credit card as we invoice you separately. You will see different types of tokens for Standard Adverts, and for Open Days and Student Profiles. You can then use one of the tokens to create an advertisement, using the easy step-by-step process on your My Account page. If you have your advertisement already created, you can simply cut and paste your ad into the relevant sections of the ad template. You can preview what your advert will look like on the site, and save your advert as a draft at any time. When you are ready, you can publish your advert on the site.

7. Can I display a logo on my advertisement?

All advertisements will automatically display your institutional logo: this is included in the price of the basic advert. If you would like an additional logo, please contact us: there will be a charge of £20 per advert for each additional logo. It is not our policy to display advertisements without the institutional logo of the purchasing organisation.

A 'mini' version of your institutional logo will also display on the search and browse listing pages when your ad comes up on searches or browses. This is included in the price.

8. Can I edit my advertisements?

Yes. You can edit and resave your advertisement at any point before you publish it on the site. When it is published, you can make changes to the advert at any time. However, please note that you may not make changes such that effectively you have posted a different advert for a different funding or study opportunity (or open day or student profile). PostgraduateStudentships.co.uk reserves the right to invoice Providers for any new adverts created in this way.

9. Our studentships often have conditions and eligibility requirements: can I show these easily?

Yes. For each advert, you will be asked to select one of our Funding Statements that indicates who the funding is for - this is then displayed on the site, so potential postgraduates can identify opportunities that may apply to them quickly. If there are detailed additional conditions or requirements, there is a special field for you to explain these, so students can see easily understand whether they are eligible or not.

10. Can I advertise taught courses and PhD or Professional Doctorate opportunities for which no funding is specifically available?

Yes - when you do, students who view your advert will also be shown the general funding that is available from charities and trusts for your subject area that they could apply for if they are interested in your study opportunity. They will of course only see adverts from charities and other general funding organisations or research councils, not other organisations with funding applicable only to their own funding opportunities.

11. Can I list multiple studentships, scholarships or bursaries in one advertisement?

To ensure that your adverts attract the most appropriate audience, we recommend that you advertise separate opportunities in separate adverts unless they really are very closely linked. We appreciate this may occasionally be the case if you are advertising studentships that apply, for example, to a group of Masters programmes in a particular department, but for separate opportunities, particularly individual PhD projects, separate adverts will be more effective and reach a wider audience: the title of the advert is very important and obviously affects how often your advert comes up in searches both on the site and in search engines. In addition, only the title of the advert itself (rather than any other titles included in it) is displayed in the site search results: if it is not immediately obvious what the advert includes, it is less likely to be viewed by prospective students.

12. I already have an advertisement prepared - can I send it to you to be posted on the site?

We can place your advert for you if you would prefer us to do that - there will be a small additional charge of £5 per advert, in addition to the cost of the advert itself - this charge if waived for standard ads purchased as part of a package of 20 or 50 advertisement tokens. We are not able to accept 'designed' ads to place separately on the site, but we can upload text into our ad template for you.

13.Can I publish an advert that has a different format to those on your site?

We have provided some predefined fields where you can include specific areas of information from your advertisement. These are based on our experience of the information prospective postgraduates find most useful and help ensure they can find information easily on your advert. However, few of the fields are 'required', so if you prefer to place all or most of your text in the main description field, in the order you want to include it, you can do that, within the limits of the field size.

Alternatively, you can purchase a button which can link through to a specific page of your choosing on your institutional website. This would however not be included in any of searches or browses on the site. Please see our Price List or Contact Us for further information.

14. If I buy an advertisement package for several adverts, do I have to use all the advertisement tokens immediately?

No, you have 6 months to use the tokens. After that time, tokens will be removed from the site unless agreed in writing with PostgraduateStudentships.co.uk at least one month before the expiry date. No refunds will be given for unused advertisement tokens which expire in this way. You will be notified one month before any remaining tokens are due to expire.

15. How long does my advertisement stay live on the site?

You will be asked to give a closing date for applications or responses, and this will be the closing date for the advert. Adverts can stay live for anything up to a year and can be repurchased for subsequent years (eg if you have recurrent annual funding opportunities - see below).

16. Can I advertise funding that is available annually?

Yes: you can select the 'recurring funding’ option and you will be sent a message shortly before the advert is due to expire asking if you wish to renew the advert and make any changes. If you decide to renew you will then be invoiced for the following year.

17. How much does it cost to advertise?

See our Package Costs page for details. Our Basic Adverts cost just £40 each, including a logo on the advertisement itself and a mini-logo in search and browse listings. Our full price list shows the various advertisement packages available as well as enhancements for individual advertisements (eg extra logos etc). When your Department is registered, you can display contact details and a short 50 word description for free. Banner, buttons and other advertising opportunities are also detailed on the price list. 18. How do I pay for advertisements?

Higher Education Institutions and other public educational bodies within the UK are invoiced when the advertisement package or enhancement (of whatever type) is purchased, with the exception of advertisement packages purchased before the site goes fully live: these will be invoiced on the date the site goes fully live. Commercial organisations, and institutions outside the UK may initially be asked for payment before publication of any advertisements.

19. How will I know how often my advert has been looked at?

We can provide 'click-through' statistics for front page button advertisements, and 'page view' statistics for individual Basic Ads.

20. How do you attract students to the site?

Our experience in setting up and running another successful site for the academic community means we know how to attract potential students quickly and effectively to view your advert.
- We have a Google page rank of 6 for our home page, after only 6 months.
- Students are referred to PostgraduateStudentships.co.uk via announcements on our sister site, AcademicBookTrade.co.uk, which has a thriving community of 10,000 academics and students, and receives around 90,000 visits per month. Our pre-launch announcement on AcademicBookTrade.co.uk during October has already attracted hundreds of enquirers wanting to register on the new site.
- We are running extensive advertising campaigns on Google and other search engines,
- We provide striking posters and leaflets for departments - if your department does not already have them on display, please let us know and we will send you some.
- Our site is carefully designed to ensure that individual adverts are found by search engines as quickly as possible and we provide advice to help you maximise the opportunities for you advertisements, when you have registered.
- We understand the power of word of mouth, and we are making it as easy (and rewarding) as possible for students to tell each other about the site.
