POSTGRADUATE MARKETING FORUM EMAIL DISCUSSION LIST

Our free discussion list, which has been set up using the Jiscmail list service, is intended for everyone who works in HE involved in any aspect of marketing, recruitment and/or admissions relating to postgraduate students, including marketers, administrators and academics. To join the list, you do not have to have attended a Forum event. We hope you will find it a useful discussion Forum and we welcome contributions and participation from a wide range of HE staff working in this field: please do pass this information to any colleagues you think may be interested.

You can post questions or issues to the list relating to postgraduate marketing, admissions or student recruitment that you would like to discuss with colleagues, and we will also announce future Forum sessions, plus pass on information about any other postgraduate marketing related events and training sessions provided by other organisations. Other than training sessions or events, the list may not be used for commercial promotion, although of course registered list members can discuss their experiences of commercial products or providers.

To join the list you can either:
1. leave a message on the contact form on PostgraduateStudentships.co.uk with your name and a brief explanation of your interest in postgraduate marketing issues,
OR
2. join the list yourself by sending the following email:
Send the following command to listserv@jiscmail.ac.uk

If you are a regular user of jiscmail and have a jiscmail password, you can also join the list from its homepage on jiscmail.ac.uk.

Postgraduate Marketing Forum

The Postgraduate Marketing Forum is intended for all those involved in postgraduate marketing and student recruitment in HE. Postgraduate students, and therefore postgraduate marketing, are crucial to most Universities, but until now there have been few specific opportunities for those who work in the field to meet colleagues and learn from experts and from each other in a forum dedicated to postgraduate marketing and student recruitment issues.

We at PostgraduateStudentships.co.uk have decided to create this new forum to offer an opportunity for regular discussion and information sharing on postgraduate marketing issues, and also to respond to the many colleagues working in the area who have indicated a demand for this type of dedicated forum in their discussions with us.

The Forum provides:

A Focus on Postgraduate Marketing and Student Recruitment

….. for the people who work in this complex and wide-ranging area, including:

• academics and administrators from academic departments and faculties
• marketers from departments or faculties with responsibility for postgraduate marketing and student recruitment
• marketers from central departments responsible for postgraduate marketing at a corporate level, and who may advise and work with departments or faculties on postgraduate marketing issues
• all those responsible for marketing masters, postgraduate research, or both

Information

… from experts and through information sharing with colleagues. Jane Penrose, Karen Davies and Liz Telford from PostgraduateStudentships.co.uk run the events. Jane has a wealth of experience in postgraduate marketing, gained both in a University, and through postgraduate marketing consultancy work. Karen joined PostgraduateStudentships.co.uk in December 2010, and has a very good overview of postgraduate issues, having previously been Marketing Manager for UKPASS at UCAS. Liz has worked within Universities in a broader postgraduate administration role which included marketing, and has extensive experience of the challenges and issues that faculty and department staff may face.

We will also invite experts in particular areas of marketing to participate in these events – not as a marketing ‘plug’ for their organisation, but to share their views of what works and what doesn’t and how Universities can benefit from working with external experts.

Opportunities for Discussion and Networking

…. through a mix of informal and more structured networking sessions, to ensure that delegates have the opportunity to meet others with similar concerns and issues to discuss. Events are limited to 50 delegates each (or sometimes less for specialist events), and some parts will be broken down into small groups to facilitate discussion.

If you would like to discuss this new forum with us, or have any queries, please do email us on pgforum@postgraduatestudentships.co.uk

BOOKING NOW OPEN: Postgraduate Student Expectations - Meet or Manage: the Marketing Challenge - PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A REPEAT OF OUR JANUARY SESSION

London, Thursday 6th June 2013 (the day after the Summer Graduate Fair at Olympia) - See below for details and booking form.

Event Details:

Following the success of the January session of the Forum, which was very oversubscribed, we have decided to re-run this session for those previously unable to attend.

In a diverse postgraduate marketplace, with a wide range of students, one of the greatest marketing challenges for Universities is to identify, and then decide what to do about, the equally wide range of student expectations, during the enquiry/application/admissions phase as well as once the student arrives. In a world where communications are so instant, the need for speed often dominates any discussion about meeting student expectations - but should it? What do postgraduate students really want during the enquiry and application phase and should Universities seek to meet, or manage - or ignore! - those expectations?

At this Forum event we will be presenting the results of our Postgraduate Student Expectations Survey Part 1: the Applications process, and discussing how Universities can most effectively respond to those expectations.

We will also include a student panel, so we can hear from students first-hand what their expectations are and how they would like them to be met through this crucial period, and what impact this has on their decision making.

This session is for all staff involved in the process of attracting postgraduate students and managing their experience through to enrolment: academic and administrative staff involved in marketing, student recruitment, admissions and departmental admin for postgraduate students are likely to be interested.

The cost of our one-day events is £200 + VAT, or £180 + VAT if you have attended a previous event. You are also eligible for the above discount if you are attending in the place of a colleague in your own department who has attended a previous event but will not be attending this one - please let us know if this is the case to ensure you receive the discount. The cost of a 'case study' delegate place (not applicable for the June event which does not include case studies) is £150 + VAT.
