This MSc in Digital Dental Technology aims to meet the dental industry’s need for professionals skilled in advanced dental technology manufacturing techniques. Combining essential knowledge from the fields of materials science, engineering, biomedical engineering, leadership and management, this course is ideal if you are a dental technician or clinical professional seeking to take your already considerable knowledge of dental technology to postgraduate level.
Studying this interdisciplinary course will help to develop your understanding of how principles and techniques from different fields such as engineering, materials science, and computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) can be brought together to advance dental technology. We’ll support you as you gain a solid understanding of essential engineering principles, enhance your knowledge of dental biomaterials and fabrication, and explore essential areas of biomedicine, such as tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. We also hope to inspire you to see how these different disciplines can be combined to drive future innovations in dental technology, as well as provide you with a sound background in research methodology and critical thinking that will support you if choose to a career in dental research and development.
Normally, you should have at least an upper second class (2.1) honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject; for example BSc (Hons) Dental Technology.If you have a lower second class (2.2) honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, we’ll consider your application, especially if you have good relevant industrial experience.If you’re a Clinical Dental Technician with an appropriate Level 6 qualification, then we encourage you to apply.You may be required to attend an interview and/or provide a portfolio of work.We’ll consider applications where appropriate work experience can be demonstrated in lieu of, or in addition to, the published academic qualifications in line with the University’s Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL) procedures.If English isn’t your first language, you’ll also need IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band (or equivalent).
