Masters Degree Description

Our Microfluidics and Microengineering research is concerned with the development of novel microengineered devices, biodetection systems and turnkey microfluidics-enabled systems. Our unit has a dedicated clean room and laboratory facilities with some state-of-the-art equipment. Our research is supported by government agencies and industry.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have a First class Honours BEng degree in a relevant Engineering discipline including Mechanical, Electrical/Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, etc. Strong applicants with a 2.1 qualification may also be considered. Personal attributes including a drive to conduct research, self-motivation and the ability to work independently and within a team are essential.

Student Destinations

Our MSc by Research courses enable students to develop specialist research skills and knowledge. We aim to provide research projects that will challenge and in some cases even inspire our students. If you are self-motivated and want to improve your ability to understand and solve engineering problems, then an MSc by Research with us may be right for you.

Module Details

Each student will be assigned a Principal and a second supervisor who are experts in the research topic. The research will be conducted in our labs which are well-equipped for research in the topics of our expertise. The research is conducted over a 12-month period Full-Time or 24 months Part-time. Research students submit for their registration assessment which is conducted in the form of a formal viva 3 months and 6 months respectively after their enrolment. For the final assessment, students are expected to submit their thesis and to be examined also in the form of a viva by an external and an internal examiner.
