Are you interested in supporting patient care and working alongside doctors and the wider healthcare team? Want to help with the diagnosis and management of patients? Our MSc Physician Associate Practice course opens the door to a rewarding career.

On this course you’ll train to become a physician associate. This is a role within the NHS with an attractive starting salary. A physician associate is a medical associate professional. They provide patient care under the supervision of a consultant or general practitioner. As a physician associate you'll focus on analysing results, diagnosis and management. Your daily activities would include:

Interviewing and examining patients

Ordering and interpreting tests

Making decisions about patient management

Developing treatment and management plans

Entry Requirements

Applicants should hold at least 2:1 degree or equivalent in related subject such as life sciences or allied health professions
A postgraduate qualification at merit or distinction may be considered for admission in cases where the applicant’s first degree is lower than 2nd class award
Interview required demonstrating the NHS’s required values and behaviours
Non-standard applicants may be considered
IELTS: Score of at least 6.5 or equivalent
GCSEs: English and Maths at grade 4 / C or equivalent
A satisfactory criminal records declaration (DBS/Disclosure Scotland), Occupational Health clearance and satisfactory Fitness to Practice assessment are required for this course.

Student Destinations

On completion of the course, you’ll be well prepared to take the Physician Associate Registration Assessment. After completing this successfully you'll be able to become a physician associate and register with the General Medical Council.

Qualified PAs have been highlighted as integral to the multidisciplinary team (NHS Long Term Workforce Plan, 2023).

When you become a physician associate there is flexibility designed within the generalist role. This allows you to pursue a wide range of clinical jobs in both primary and secondary care.
