Masters Degree Description

If you're ready to build on your current knowledge and experience and excited to start or continue your successful career in project management, this MSc Project Management degree is for you.

On this Master’s programme you’ll explore the principles, practices, tools and techniques of project management. You’ll study key project management themes, including the project environment, budgets and commercial management, people management, risk management, managing programmes and portfolios and learn how to apply your new knowledge in the workplace within the wider context of a rapidly changing digital world.

The course is delivered on a block basis, which means you’ll study on campus for short periods of time throughout the year. Whether you’re a busy working professional or an international student, these study blocks give you the ability to stay on campus for a shorter period of time than many other postgraduate degrees so you can complete your studies around your current commitments.

The MSc Project Management course is accredited by the Chartered Association for Project Management (APM), the professional body for project management in the UK. During the course you will become a student member of the APM for free. You will have the opportunity to attend APM webinars and live events to engage with current project professionals and develop your knowledge of project management whilst further building your professional network.

When undertaking this Masters course, you will have access to online project management e-learning courses through our provider ILX. Courses include ‘Portfolio Management Essentials’, ‘Programme Management Essentials’, ‘Better Business Cases’, ‘Risk Management Essentials’, ‘Change Management Foundation’ and ‘Agile Project Management Foundation’.  Certificates of completion are provided for some of these courses which you will be able to use as evidence of your additional learning and engagement. These can be used to enhance both your CV and your LinkedIn profile.

As a student at the University of Portsmouth you will have access to ‘LinkedIn Learning’. There are many learning opportunities which will then be available to you, including courses on software being used in the industry such as Primavera, MS Project, Asana, Trello and Jira, along with courses on softer skills which are vital in the project management field.

You’ll graduate with the tools and skills you need to become a project manager in any size or type of organisation.
