Masters Degree Description

In the challenging arena of specialist child care practice it is essential that practitioners have opportunities to develop their learning and education to enhance their skills and knowledge. This course will enable practitioners to develop a comprehensive understanding and application of knowledge related to child care practice, including critical awareness of current issues and new evidence-based practice research. There will be learning opportunities to generate new approaches to safeguarding policy and practice in work with children and young people; and learning opportunities to develop and to enhance decision-making skills in complex safeguarding situations involving children and young people.

Entry Requirements

There is a standard benchmark of a first degree at 2.2 or above in a relevant subject, but non-standard entrants with suitable experience in social care and evidence of recent study will be considered.

Module Details

Students on this course will be expected to undertake 3 modules (all modules below are 20 credits each)

Either:
SW4700 Professional Development Review
or
SW4701 ASYE: Demonstrating Capability in Social Work Practice

Plus on further compulsory module:
SW4033 Safeguarding Children and Young People

Plus one option from the following modules:

  • SW4032 Childhood in Law and Welfare
  • SW4085 Theorising Childhood & Adolescence
  • SW4705 Introduction to Facilitating Learning in the Workplace
  • SW4706 Advanced Facilitation of Learning in the Workplace
  • SW4708 Substance Misuse: A holistic approach to problematic drug and alcohol use
  • SW4711 End of Life Care
  • SW4712 Responding to Contemporary Issues in Social Work and Social Care
  • SW4713 Understanding Mental Health Practice
  • SW4715 Professional Practice within Learning Disabilities Services
