Why did you choose to study your degree at Swansea?

Swansea University is one of UK’s top universities. It possessed a comprehensive and detailed course in the field of clinical psychology and mental health that I was exactly looking for. Additionally, the university consisted of an opportunity of exposure to different cultures, people and experiences, which seemed enthralling as an international student.

What is your favourite thing about your course?
My favourite thing about my course is the way the modules are categorised. Different disorders and therapies I’ve studied have a whole different module each. I truly enjoy learning about all of them in the most detailed way possible. The faculty and staff are extremely helpful as well. I constantly have support for my academics as well as mentorship in-spite of covid. My course is really interesting, and I love the specialisation. The course has pushed me to go beyond what I’ve learnt theoretically and apply the gained knowledge practically through practical training. The course has helped me acquire and develop skills like patience and consistency.

What are you planning/hoping to do after you graduate?
I plan on doing my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, gain the required experience and eventually have a practice of my own under BPS accreditation.

Would you recommend Swansea University to other students?
Yes, I would definitely recommend Swansea university to other students. My experience has been exceptionally rewarding, and I would like others to have the same. I have gained opportunities and met people I never imagined to be so fulfilling. Moreover, Swansea University gave me a chance to network beyond my perceived ability. Considering my experience of my course and the city, especially being an international student, I’d say Swansea University is one of the best for the same.

Are you/have you been part of a society?
I’ve been a part of a few societies. All the societies I’ve joined have been immensely welcoming, and particularly encouraging towards trying out different and new avenues of my interest and outside them as well. I was also encouraged by the student union to start or be a part of the committee of a society. This led me to become the President of the Vegan and Vegetarian society (VegSoc), which helped me make a social change in areas of my interest. I am also a part of the Tree society, with whom I’ve fulfilling experiences.

Have you undertaken a work placement as part of your course?
I have had a few volunteering experiences. I’m a volunteer at Discovery and I’m on a well-being volunteering opportunity related to sustaining well-being of students and creating a community through hobbies.

Have you worked part-time during your degree?
I’m a Student Ambassador at the university. This paid job by the university provides me an opportunity to have access to some form of income while doing my masters. I thoroughly enjoy the job and have met multiple wonderful people. It’s also flexible around my schedule, which is helpful.

Have you accessed student support at Swansea University?
I have accessed student support at MyUniHub multiple times. They have been extremely helpful every single time. I’ve received guidance and support every time I’ve relied on them for an issue.

Do you speak Welsh?
I do not fluently speak Welsh but living in Swansea has given me an opportunity to learn Welsh, a completely new language for me. I am enthusiastic about the Welsh culture and the language and will most definitely continue to learn more about it while I’m living in Swansea. Diolch!
