What does it cover? Full tuition fees and the equivalent of a UKRI stipend for three years

The College of Social Sciences and International Studies (SSIS) is offering a PhD Global Excellence Scholarship for international applicants starting their postgraduate research degree in September 2020. The scholarship is available for full time students only.

The Scholarship is available in the following subject areas within the College of Social Science and International Studies at the University of Exeter:

The award will be granted to the strongest applicant based on an assessment of the applicant’s:

  • Academic excellence
  • Research potential
  • Research proposal

Entry Requirements

Successful applicants should normally have a good first degree (at least 2.1, or international equivalent) in a relevant field of study, and have obtained, or are currently working towards a Master’s degree at Merit level, or international equivalent, in a relevant field of Social Sciences.

Applicants will be expected to have identified and approached a potential supervisor and to have supervision agreed in principle. To help find an appropriate supervisor please use the Research Expertise search function on our Postgraduate Research website.

  • Applicants would be expected to start their studies in September 2020. Students/applicants who have already commenced PhD study, or who hold a deferred offer, or who wish to apply for deferred entry are not eligible for this award.
  • Recipients are expected to commit to engagement beyond their doctoral studies through contributing to the research environment of their discipline and the College, by participating in research activities, accessing skills development training and opportunities, and career development. Continued funding would be dependent on satisfactory evidence of this engagement having taken place.

This award is only open to applicants whose fee status is classed as International. Therefore this award is not open to Home or EU students. Click here for further information about fee status.

Up to two fully-funded International studentships providing tuition fees and a Stipend equivalent to UKRI rate (£15,009 for 2019/20 entry)
