The awards will cover full tuition fees for eligible students and provide a £3,000 scholarship to support with living costs.

Renewable energy technologies are vital to the development and sustainable growth of the Scottish economy. The Government remains committed to an overall renewable energy target of 30% by 2020, and to achieve this has established individual targets for renewable electricity, heat and transport. It is widely recognised that the Wind industry will play a key role in delivering the target for renewable electricity, but that the growing demand for highly skilled engineers in this industry, needs to be met in order to support this.

On the Wind Engergy Systems course, students will develop and enhance their technical expertise of wind energy and deepen their understanding of the engineering, political and economic contexts of wind power. They will be taught by academics internationally-renowned in the wind energy sector, have the opportunity to undertake real-world industry-linked projects (eg ScottishPower, SmarterGrids Solutions, SSE) and be given unique access to world-leading research facilities such as Europe’s only centre dedicated to the development and demonstration of “smart-grid” technologies, Power Networks Demonstration Centre (PNDC)
