Our graduates are primed for fulfilling careers in diverse sectors such as fitness and leisure, elite sports performance, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and beyond. Our research efforts encompass the areas of science, technology, health, and medicine as they relate to sports, exercise, and health contexts, involving a broad spectrum of demographics including children, older adults, clinical groups, and elite international athletes.
You will be taught by world-leading researchers and experts, including Dr Alison Williams who has been involved in several industry led projects in the areas of wind turbines, metal processing, manufacture of electronics components and the development of ventilation systems. As a member of the Marine Energy Research Group, Alison is currently involved in developing computational models to assess both the performance of marine energy devices and their interactions with the environment.
The Mechanical Engineering facilities include an extensive Robotics Laboratory, Virtual Reality Suite, Cyber Physical Factory, Student led Hack/Innovation Space, 3D printers, Formula Student Workshop, Wind Tunnel and multiple material testing and advanced manufacturing technologies. Our students have also built their own 3D printers, which are used for different projects.
We have close interaction with large companies such as Tata Steel and Ford, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises. We have worked with Astra-Zeneca, British Aerospace, Qinetiq, GKN, Rolls-Royce, SKF, Freeport, One Steel, and Barrick Gold. In addition, some of our graduates have gone on to have interesting and varied careers at companies such as, Tata Steel, Rolls-Royce, Jaguar Land Rover, BP, GE Aviation, Ford and Babcock International Group.
