A.F.C. Bournemouth (AFCB) is providing a fully funded bursary award toward fees for a Bournemouth University (BU) MRes study as part of an ongoing partnership between BU and AFCB.

Successful candidates will support the performance analysis and coaching teams within the AFCB Academy or, under the supervision of the Lead Academy Analyst.

You will work with the analysts in the collection of data to support the MRes project and answer a performance question related to the requirements of AFCB. Details of the MRes process can be found here.

The studies will be guided by BU supervisory team where you can use data collected with the AFCB Performance Analysis team to complete the MRes requirement. Data collection timeframe will run from the start of August 2019 to May 2020 in line with the football season, with an MRes completion date of July 2020.

Within this area, there are a range of topics available for investigation covering both tactical and technical performance indicators, the applicant will propose a project which will be interrogated by the supervisory team and lead performance analyst.

Contact time on the MRes and with AFCB will be approximately 20 hours per week and may include weekend and unsociable hours. Subsequently, AFCB will contribute a full fee bursary to the students MRes fees.

The internship side will involve:

  • Assist with filming of Academy Matches and Training Sessions
  • Assist with Video analysis on specific teams, including pre and post match presentations.
  • Assist with day release Analysis Sessions
  • Assist with the collection and management of KPI data across a range of teams.
  • Assist with analysis required by other departments including coach observation and recruitment.
  • Input Data into PMA and Academy Database systems
  • Attend department CPD events and present at least 1 during the season

Funding Notes

An MRes Scholarship includes a fee waiver for 12 months. Associated costs, such as fieldwork and conference attendance, may be met under the scholarship, depending on faculty approval.
